Course Description:
Prepares individuals to be an entry-level Personal Attendant providing services to persons with disabilities in a home, respite or long-term care setting. Topics include infection control, safety, basic physical and psychological needs as related to developmental stages, activities of daily living care skills, and principles of nutrition and home management. Includes classroom instruction, hands-on skills practice in lab setting, and observation/field work in appropriate setting. Students can plan on being in class a minimum of one half-day each weekday during the two-week course period, with a minimum of 2 full-days for the observation/field work portion of the course.
Prerequisites:
Students must: have a valid social security number; be 18 years or older; be able to take direction and respond to emergency situations ppropriately; and have reliable transportation.

Registration is through the ACC Continuing Education department. Students do not need to complete the ACC college student admissions process. Pre-registration is required, and is on a first-come-first-serve basis. Registration for the Fall 2003 semester opens on August 4, 2003. Students may register in person (cash, check, credit card), by phone (credit card only), mail (check, credit card), or fax (credit card). Payment (or equivalent documentation from Financial Aid or other funding sources) is due at the time of registration.
